It’s mid June 2015, and the AdColony Marketing team has just signed a sponsorship contract for GDC Europe/Gamescom later that year. Who else would be solidifying our sponsorship on the UBM side, but Bryce Nankervis, our usual rep? Little did we know, Bryce was on the cusp of becoming an AdColonist.
A couple of weeks later, Bryce joined the team, and has since turned into an invaluable member of the Games Publishing side of the business. As a Business Development Manager, Bryce spends the majority of his time bringing in new publishers interested in monetizing. He’s a busy man, but luckily, we were able to catch him for a few moments. Time to get AdColonized, Bryce!
What exactly does a Business Development Manager do?
Hunt, hunt, hunt. I focus on finding new gaming publishers to integrate our SDK and deliver new impressions to the network. So lots of prospecting, cold calling, and deal closing.
Sounds like a lot of work! How have your experiences prior to joining AdColony helped prepare you for your role here?
Throughout my sales career, I’ve always focused on acquiring new business, so my prior experience transferred well to my role at AdColony. In my first job out of college, I went door to door to different construction sites selling hardware and tools, so I’m pretty comfortable with the cold call.

Speaking of your prior sales experience, rumor has it you used to be AdColony’s rep when you were at UBM (GDC). How did you end up making the switch?
One of my last projects at UBM was selling sponsorships for GDC Europe, including the sponsorship for AdColony. However, before that event rolled around, I saw an opportunity to join the AdColony team and was hired!
It must have been fate! What made you want to join the AdColony team?
During my time at GDC I became very familiar with the vendors in the mobile gaming space, and AdColony definitely stood out as a top tier company in the industry. So, I was very excited for the opportunity.
Well, we’re happy to have you here, too. How do you keep growing and learning in your role?
Communication, first and foremost. I learn something new every day just by talking to our San Francisco user acquisition team — those guys are really smart.
Which app is keeping you engaged lately and why?
Duolingo! I took a few years of Spanish in high school, and it’s really good for picking it back up.
What about hobbies? What do you do that helps you decompress?
I golf and play video games. I mostly stick to shooter and puzzle games. And lots of Mario. I also love watching the Giants.
Last, what’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
They named a canyon after me.
Ha! What a jokester!
Thanks for letting us AdColonize you, Bryce! We know it’s hard being the father of a 10 week old baby boy, so, time to get back to diaper duty.
