Mobile Monday: Vivid, Ubisoft, & MAZ

Posted Oct 3, 2016

In this edition of Mobile Monday, we’re covering the latest news from Vivid Games, Ubisoft, and MAZ, examining how indie studios are partnering with and being acquired by larger publishers while more platforms are popping up to support publishers’ transitions to creating mobile-optimized experiences.

Vivid Games & Art Dynasty
As smaller studios continually look for additional help publishing and promoting their titles, so publishing arm Vivid Games made news today for its partnership with indie studio Art Dynasty. Though the partnership, Vivid will aid Art Dynasty in publishing its forthcoming mobile title Road Survivor. This deal is only 5 months after Vivid announced its first publishing deal with EVERYDAYiPLAY, a Krakow-based developer known for its title Nox Raiders.

Ubisoft & Ketchapp
In other recent publishing developments, Ubisoft is set to acquire mobile games creation powerhouse Ketchapp. The studio, which has published a dizzying number of apps, has driven over 700 million installs for its titles. It’s an impressive feat for a studio founded just last year, which did not go unnoticed by Ubisoft. As Ubisoft vies to strengthen its mobile app division, the Ketchapp acquisition simply makes sense.

MAZ Phoenix
Meanwhile, MAZ recently launched a new app publishing platform for one of the most traditional of content owners: magazines. Understanding that user behaviors and expectations for consuming content on mobile devices is much different than print or web, the new platform helps publishers reimagine their content for mobile. Instead of relying on traditional PDF or InDesign layouts, the platform is designed to cater to “today’s mobile-first audience.”
