Getting Ready for GDC 2017

Next week, thousands of gamers, developers, and advertisers will meet in San Francisco, CA to attend the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC). Attendees will have the opportunity to learn gaming industry insights and network with investors and international developers. GDC attracts over 26,000 people, so there’s no doubt that this year’s conference will be anything less but extraordinary.

Besides attending the showroom floor and visiting various booths, the conference offers attendees hundreds of sessions to grow and expand their skill sets. Below are some must-attend sessions during the last three days of GDC.

Wednesday, March 1st
9:30am (West Hall, Room 2006): Awesome Video Game Data 2017. Geoffrey Zatkin (Founder, EEDAR) will overview the video game industry from a business outlook in this session. Attendees will leave knowing the newest trends in the video game industry (from a macro perspective).

2pm (North Hall, Room 130): Lifetime Value: The Long Tail of Mid-Core Mobile Games. Tammy Levy (Dir. of Product, Publishing, Kongregate) will demonstrate through case studies how post D30 retention can increase revenue. Learn strategies to boost early and late revenues and how to drive better player investment.

Thursday, March 2nd
2pm (West Hall, Room 2011): What the Best Games Know about Analytics That the Rest Don’t. Dr. Isaac Roseboom (Head of Insight, deltaDNA) will show audience members how analytics and player insights are key to a game’s’ success. From first time purchase users to onboarding new users, maximize your KPI performance with Roseboom’s outline to monetization success.

3pm (West Hall, Room 3007): How to Grow Casual Games for the Long Term. This session will inform listeners about which metrics are best when looking at user acquisition and how to take advantage of opportunities for success. Panelists include:

  • Rafael Vivas (VP of Business Development, AppLovin)
  • Peter Hansen-Chambers (Commercial Director, Hutch Game)
  • Michael Grobe (CEO, Game Circus)
  • Issei Shimizu (Sr. User Acquisition Manager, MobilityWare)

Friday, March 3rd
3pm (West Hall, Room 3007): 10 Do’s and Don’ts of Influencer Marketing: A Case Study. Karel De Beule (CEO, PlayClips) teaches attendees how to produce hit games that feature influencers. She will give real examples and concepts that will help gamers create successful ventures by learning from PlayClips’ mistakes.

11:30am (North Hall, Room 132): Embracing Disruption: What Blockchains Mean for the Game Industry. Alex Amsel (Co-founder, Ownage) will discuss the basics of blockchains, and then teach attendees about the newest innovations surrounding blockchains, like fraud reduction and fund raising.
