Highlights from 2017 Code Media

Posted Feb 23, 2017

Last week, some of our AdColony team members traveled to Dana Point, California for the 2017 Code Media conference. Key players in media, tech, and advertising from around the world flocked to the Ritz-Carlton and attended several sessions over the 2-day event. As a supporting partner, AdColony focused on supporting lead media companies and publishers who specialize in mobile monetization.

During the conference, AdColony’s Nikao Yang (EVP Global Business Development & Marketing) participated as part of the panel “The Power of Premium in Today’s Media Mix”. This session also included Pooja Midha (SVP Digital Ad Sales & Operations at Disney ABC TV Group) and Vikram Somaya (SVP Global Data Officer, ESPN). Devrie DeMarco (SVP MediaLink) moderated the session.

Nikao and panelists discuss the role of primetime content and premium advertising

The panel’s discussion focused on premium content and its consumers. In the past, marketers looked at charts (Billboard 1000) to determine how their brands and products associated with popular culture. With this in mind, the panel dove deeper into how the industry is standardizing viewability and what the future holds for the consumption of information. The key takeaway from Nikao in the session: “By looking at top ranked apps and sites, the scale they deliver, and the consumer mindset that they put the user in — these three pillars drive what we use to re-define the notion of premium, aka Today’s Primetime.

Other breakout sessions at Code Media 2017 included discussions with Amazon, Netflix, the Washington Post, National Geographic, Buzzfeed, and many more. The weekend included meals from renowned Chef Katsuji Tanabe, known for his kosher Mexican cuisine! The conference of course ended with a bang, as attendees gathered at the closing reception and celebrated the success of Code Media 2017!
