AdColonized: Getting to Know Stephanie Bao

Posted Dec 21, 2017

Stephanie Bao knows what it takes to help publishers accomplish their business goals. As the Publisher Development Manager in our Singapore office, Stephanie spends most of her time planning and contacting publishers, helping them smoothly transition onto the AdColony platform. She comes from a background in technology, client services, and business development, equipping her with the necessary skills to excel in her current role. On weekends, she enjoys painting, watching Korean dramas, and planning her annual ski trip with friends! Stephanie, let’s get you AdColonized!

What exactly does a Publisher Development Manager do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
As a Publisher Development Manager, my main role is to get new publishers within South East Asian regions onto the AdColony platform via the SDK integration. Every day, I spend a big chunk of my time mapping out potential publishers that I would like to target. Once the names are added to my pipeline, I will then reach out to them by email, phone, or whatever manner works best. I also get my leads from attending industry events, recommendations from publishers, and the frequent work trips within the regions.

Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
Prior to joining AdColony I was doing platform sales for a TV tech company. My primary focus was on selling the trading platform solution to TV broadcasters and media agencies across SEA regions. Before that, I had spent a few years in IT companies like BuzzCity and Baidu doing various sales-related roles.

My past jobs provided me with a wide range of experiences in terms of client services and business development. I hope I can bring these transferable skills into my current role in AdColony when speaking with publishers.

What made AdColony the right fit for you?
The ability to learn and grow as well as the company culture! The fact that I would be able to understand the mobile advertising industry better from the market-leading company was the main reason for me to join AdColony. The level of maturity and professionalism from the teams, and high degree of autonomy in my job make up a great company culture that I love being a part of.

How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
First of all, I love what I do and I love the ad-tech industry. The ever-changing digital landscape and constant development of new technology is what motivates me to work hard every day. For me, staying curious and being observant with what’s happening in the industry is key. The photo album in my phone is filled with screenshots of mobile ads I have come across either in interesting formats or being showcased in very creative manners.

What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
I am kind of introverted and I spend most of my weekends at home recharging. In terms of indoor activities, I love reading, painting, and catching up on some Korean dramas. For outdoors, my biggest love is skiing. My annual ski trip is something I look forward to most for the whole month of December (besides Christmas).

Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
Mobile Legends for sure. I was doing research on the possible ad placements for the potential publisher and ended up playing the game. Now I am absolutely hooked! The game releases updates and new heroes frequently which helps to keep the players engaged and not feeling bored of the same feature set.

What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I am a part-time makeup artist specialising in wedding/bridal makeup in Singapore.

Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
No official nickname yet, though I do hear Char Siew Bao and Lian Yong Bao from time to time for obvious reason (my surname is Bao)…

What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
Our lunch-in Wednesdays! Every Wednesday our lovely office manager Kaero will order in lunch for the entire Singapore team. It’s the perfect chance for us to catch up with one another. We talk mostly about silly stuff and occasionally about work too.
