This week in mobile, we’re taking a look at the top sessions at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki, covering monetization, thinking as a player, and understanding the difference between UI and UX.

EA Talks Team Culture & AAP
Johannes Peltola, senior project manager at EA, spoke to the importance of building a strong team culture at another session today. For Peltola, this entails brutal honesty and many iterations as the team works their way through design choices.
Peltola also advised that, “thinking about As A Player, or AAP, is vital,” to creating a successful game. To do this, Peltola recommends viewing the with the fresh eyes of the player.
McAllister Talks UX
The necessity of considering games through the user’s perspective was echoed in Graham McAllister’s talk on stage regarding the importance of proper UX design. During his session, McAllister discussed “frustrations of how confused people get over what UX actually is.”
For successful UX optimization, McAllister stressed the importance not confusing UX designers with UI designers. UX is much more than interface or visual design: it should entail everything from field research & product design to feature writing & aesthetics.
