It’s no surprise that the games category on the App Store is the most populated. In fact, according to recent data by Statista, game apps account for 22.2% of the total app ecosystem, and the next categories trail by a large margin.
Combined with the games category, business, education, and lifestyle apps round out the most populous app categories and account for 51% of total apps on the app store. As a result, app marketers looking to drive installs for these categories face steep competition for user attention.
The next segment consists of books, travel, utilities, and entertainment apps. Combined, these account for 19.3% of the app store, a fair share of the 20 available categories with moderate app install competition levels.
