Mobile Monday: N64 & PSP Smartwatch Revivals and Titanfall to Mobile

Posted Nov 2, 2015

In this edition of Mobile Monday, we are taking a look at what a few hackers have done to deliver Nintendo 64 and PlayStation Portable games to smartwatches and how a partnership between Nexon and Respawn may bring Titanfall to mobile.

N64 and PSP Games on Smartwatches
As spotted by Mike Minotti late last week, YouTube user Hacking Jules has created N64 and PSP emulators for the Android Wear smartwatch. The result? First, we have The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. Queue the puns: Ocarina of Time is now playable on your timepiece.

Less punny and more challenging, Monster Hunter Freedom was also debuted running on the LG smartwatch. To be fair, any monsters slain in this version should generate bonus experience.

Titanfall to Mobile
Titanfall fans may have reason to rejoice:  game creators Respawn Entertainment have announced a partnership with F2P developer Nexon to bring the game to mobile. Also collaborating on the project is Los Angeles based studio Particle City.

For those raising their eyebrows at the thought of Titanfall on mobile, it will not be a port. Rather, Nexon CEO Owen Mahoney told Polygon that they plan to develop an entirely new type of Titanfall game. While what that means for the franchise is unclear, Particle City founder Vince Zampella hinted that the game will offer, “another piece of the universe, a peek behind the curtain that is hinted at,” in the original game.

While the release date is not yet announced, it will herald yet another major game franchise that is expanding into mobile to tell its story in new and innovative ways, which is always exciting.
