Yesterday, a few of us stole away from the office for a few hours. It wasn’t to go surfing or hiking, but rather to volunteer at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. While we sorted through 21,000 pounds of dry food, we were but a small part of a larger team of volunteers. Together, we helped feed over 40,000 people.
While this sounds like a lot, it’s but a fraction of the meals needed in the area. As our shift came to a close, pallets of food still needed to be sorted. Although we attempted to keep going, sorting canned veggies from canned meat and cereal from pasta, another wave of volunteers were arriving to take our place.
So, as we scurry off today to share thanks and food with loved ones, we’re reminded ever more how much we have to be thankful for. To the wonderful folks at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank: thank you for all that you do. We will be back.
