Working in a suit and heels everyday wasn’t an ideal lifestyle for Kirsty Boyd. For several years, she helped others find work with cool media companies through a recruitment firm. Kirsty moved into ad sales at an online start-up, and then transitioned to a larger firm that represented large UK online publishers like, The Independent. Now that Kirsty has been with AdColony almost 6 years, she definitely has a lot of knowledge to share about the mobile market! It’s time to get AdColonized Kirsty!
What exactly does a Head of Sales Planning, Account Management, and Ad Sales Marketing do?
I spend most of the day typing out my epically long job title…haha! But outside of that, I support all three of the above named departments. I make sure that they have everything they need in order to work effectively with our Sellers and Ops teams. I am also constantly figuring out how we can best service our internal team and external client needs. Sales Planning and ASM are new departments much needed for the London office, so we are working hard to understand the best way to develop and grow them to drive revenue.
That’s a lot of responsibility! What made AdColony the right fit for you?
This industry changes every day and it is hugely competitive; as long as we keep looking ahead and anticipating our clients’ questions I’m really happy to be here. When I joined, we were the leaders in a very new market, and I was excited to learn and talk to clients about something innovative. These days I’m driven by the opportunities to help position our team for success and give them access to whatever they need to win and close a deal.
How do you keep growing & learning?
I’m surrounded by colleagues who are experts in what they do, which helps my growth. As long as you stay alert and open to new ideas in this crazy world of media, you’ll easily learn something every day.
What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
I have a 2 year old daughter who rules every minute of my day outside of my work hours. Quite often she’s enough of a handful to make you want to work a 7 day week, but occasionally she’s great fun to hang out with.
We’ll grab the dog and go exploring as a family, or I’ll beg my husband to give me some child-free hours so that I can grab some sleep.
Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
I’m addicted to Instagram. Don’t follow me, I only post pictures of my daughter, my plate, or my Pug. But my idea of switching off is to scroll through millions of pictures of other people’s ‘lives’. It’s kind of mind-numbingly, fascinating, and I have to be conscious of not doing it too much.
What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I throw a mean Kitchen-Disco.
Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
After many years of client socials and working within a somewhat ‘vibrant’ sales team there are plenty of stories. None of which are true though and time will help fade any memories.
What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
There are too many to mention. We’ve had all the fun. Long may it continue.
