AdColonized: Getting to Know Rachel Seo

Posted Feb 23, 2017

Who’s gonna be the very best, that no one ever was? That’s Rachel Seo, Publisher Development Manager in our Korea office! Filled with passion and enthusiasm for mobile gaming, Rachel spends her time nurturing clients and reading about the newest marketing trends and mobile apps. How is she able to accomplish work deadlines and level up her PokemonGo account? Rachel’s got the scoop in this week’s AdColonized. Ready to answer them all? I choose you Rachel!

What exactly does a Publisher Development Manager do at AdColony?
My role involves a lot of different tasks and intertwines with various publishers. First and foremost, I strategize and propose ad placements to publishers to help increase ad earnings. In addition to this, I also support publishers for a variety of SDK issues during their integration with AdColony’s SDK. An important task to note is that I nurture relationships with partners and publishers. If they are happy, then I’ve done my job right! My average day also consists of expanding my professional network, both offline and online. Currently, my friends list on Facebook has increased to over 200 people! I’m really excited to make new friends because I am increasing my professional network, which could ultimately expand my publisher roster at AdColony.

Tell me a little about your previous experiences before joining the AdColony team.
Prior to joining the Korea AdColony team, I worked for more than four years as a Game PM and a Marketer. My previous work experience trained me on user acquisition and game service flow, both helpful to know about at AdColony. Fortunately, our Korea team had someone who was experienced in the gaming field, so I was offered the opportunity to join the AdColony team.

Wow! You were in the right place at the right time. What made AdColony the right fit for you?
The best thing about working at AdColony was that the company fit my career path. When I was in marketing, I naturally concentrated on ‘organic user’ and ‘NCPI’. When I was going to transition to another position, it was important to me that my new career path still related with media. I thought, that among the the companies I applied for, the product offering of flexible video ads was the best! Plus, my work at AdColony also relates to the gaming industry, so the combination of marketing with gaming was the perfect synergy for me. But probably the best thing about AdColony’s Korea office is the nice atmosphere! I’m really happy to be a part of AdColony!

GStar conference with my AdColony team. It was so much fun getting to know each other and grabbing Korean BBQ after.

Gaming and marketing- AdColony definitely fits the mark! How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
I keep learning about my field by playing all of the latest games. For over 5 years, I’ve been posting reviews of the games I play on my blog. Blogging the games I’ve played help me keep track of what I’ve tested and what I enjoy the most. Another skill I try to grow on a daily basis is my English. Since English wasn’t my first language, I’ve had to train myself how to use it correctly. I work on my English as much as I can, probably a little more than an hour each day.

Do you have any activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
Last year marked my 4 year anniversary of playing badminton! I’m actually a popular badminton player in amateur league in Seoul. This year I plan on changing my sport of choice to tennis. I’d love to get to the top in a tennis amateur league…like Venus Williams!

I feel like with your gaming background you’ve got a favorite app! Is there one in particular that’s keeping you engaged lately?
Well finally PokemonGo was released in Korea! I am currently into collecting all of the available Pokemon, especially when the app was first released! I’m always on the look out for Pokemon and Pokestops where I go. Sometimes, I’ll even take a long way around to my destination so that my Pokemon can get more steps and collect items. I’d like to think that thanks to PokemonGo, I am becoming a healthy. Another app I enjoy is Facebook, since all of my friends are grown up. Social networking is something that interests me and I use it as a way to communicate with my friends. Sometimes I do Facebook live and it’s really funny because of the immediate reaction from followers!

What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
This February, I plan to go to Paris with an old friend to celebrate our 10 year friend-anniversary. This will be my first time visiting Europe, so I am really looking forward to enjoying the city and everything it has to offer. I’m really thankful to my coworkers for conveying all the cool spots to me and offering up other good info to make my Paris tour a wonderful one!

What’s been your favorite moment with AdColony and the team?
My absolute favorite moments with AdColony was the 2016 Year End party and the Gstar event. During the Year End Party, we made mood lights at the Carpenter’s room. Sanding the wood for the lights was really difficult, but we had a good time learning about each other and building relationships. We also shared gifts and enjoyed a BBQ dinner with wine. My other great moment with AdColony was during the Gstar event. We all decided to try all of the local food– Korean beef, pork BBQ, and Korean sashimi, and live octopus! The meal was quite challenging, but everyone actually enjoyed it! It was really fun!
