AdColonized: Getting to Know Xiaoli He

Posted Jun 22, 2017

Meet Xiaoli He: relationship builder, information collector, and number cruncher! As a Sales Director, Xiaoli is constantly growing the AdColony business in China and keeping up with new opportunities that come her way. Previously working for Baidu for four years, Xiaoli is an expert at user acquisition and a pro at maintaining client relationships. When she’s not busy testing campaigns, Xiaoli enjoys exercising, cooking, and spending time outdoors. Xiaoli, you’re about to get AdColonized!

What exactly does a Sales Director do at AdColony?

As a Sales Director:

1. I need to be a diplomat. I need to maintain good relationships with existing key accounts, industry media, the community, and 3rd party trackers. Good relationships and a good personal reputation will help you a lot in the long-term to grow your business.

2. I am an information collector. I need to focus on industry news, social media to understand what my customers are doing, our competitors, and where the next big business opps are.

3. I need to be a good learner and analyst. At campaign level, you need to know how to help clients get more quality users by taking full use of company technology and resources. At goal level, you need to keep your team’s target in mind and clearly know how to reach it step by step.

What’s an average day like for you?
Every morning, I wake up from my daughter’s noise at 7am- she’s very punctual, without delay! Fortunately, we have an experienced housemaid who can help me with all the housework. I like to take the subway as my transportation to work. On the train, I can test clients’ new games and also play some publishers’ games to see if there are any campaigns not running on our network and if our network performs well.

After I arrive at the office, the first thing I usually do is look at our AdColony Dashboard to see if the revenue increased well. After that, I will spend 2 hours of my morning to see if there is more we can do to scale up the existing business and if there are any challenges. Next, I will spend 1 or 2 hours reading up on industry and client news. I will also discuss some work, share new leads, and see if our Sales Manager needs my help.

In the afternoon, I will arrange 3 to 4 business calls or meetings with new or existing clients and after that, handle some miscellaneous tasks like preparing IO, Chasing Due Payments, etc.

After I get back home, I switch my role from sales to mother. I check my son’s homework and play with my children for a while. I am crazy about fitness recently. I will go to the gym twice a week to take aerobics dance classes.

Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
Prior to joining AdColony, I worked for Baidu for 4 years and Opera Software for 5 years. In Baidu, I worked as the Marketing Manager for Baidu Utility Tools. I know how to do UA, how to measure UA performance, and how to run PR/marketing activities and events as a traditional internet company. My experience from Baidu helps a lot in my UA responsibilities at AdColony.

Standing at the platform of Baidu, you can clearly see how the whole Chinese Internet industry developed. In Baidu, I had the chance to work with people from different departments. These people are very talented. When they started their new careers in other giant companies like Taobao, 360, Tencent, and Alibaba, they helped me find contacts and establish relationships.

With Opera Software, for the first time, I had the chance to touch the mobile industry and sell advertisements. I experienced the rapid growth of the Chinese market from feature phone to smartphone, from 2G to 4G. This gave me a better understanding of the different game players in the mobile industry and a higher vision when evaluating business opps.

During my work with Opera Software, I moved successfully from Marketing Manger to Business Development and then to Sales. My Human Resources also grew very rapidly. These people helped me find new opportunities and contacts very quickly and shorten the time between finding new opps to closing the deal in my current job.

What made AdColony the right fit for you?
AdColony has the best video technology and good supply globally, which can fulfill the huge demand from China. That is the most attractive part to me. This means the company can have long term development.

How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
I would like to sell different inventories like display and AMP, and try to run more brand campaigns as well as take on more management responsibilities. I also want to take a professional psychology class in the near future and travel to Oceania, South America, and Africa to learn about the diverse cultures.

What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
I like outdoor activities, caring for plants on my balcony, cooking, and running in the park next to our community after work and during the weekends.

Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
Rolling Sky: This game is our advertiser and publisher as well. Most importantly, this game is super difficult to play.

What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I like to play soccer. I was a defender of our soccer team when I was in college.

Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
No

What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
I am so proud that I joined the 2015 off-site at the Four Seasons Hotel in LA. The hotel was the best hotel I have ever been to. So amazing! I took the whole team out to a small restaurant that serves the best American food and plays country music.

My co-worker, Mimmie, brought a karaoke machine from Singapore to LA. Mimmie, Aaron, Asim and I spent one day in the hotel room preparing our karaoke songs to perform. We made so much noise. The karaoke party was awesome and everybody had a great time. This company is full of talented people!
