What exactly does a Sales Director, Performance do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
I see myself as a nurturer, an analyst, and a relationship-builder to my clients at AdColony. Everyday without fail, the dashboard is the first thing I’ll access. Apart from monitoring the campaigns’ spending trend, I’ll always do brainstorming with the team on what ways we can bring spending to a higher level.
The remaining working hours I will spend a fair bit of time scouring through analytic platforms like Appannie and SensorTower, reading up industry news – what’s hype and not – and sharing insight with my team and clients.
Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
Time flies, and this is my 10th year in mobile! (Guessing my age huh?) I have been working with leading mobile ad networks, and am blessed to have had the experience to interact with many people from different backgrounds and cultures across the globe. As such, I am very tolerant and respective of the diversity and differences every individual brings to the team.
The two things I’ve brought along into AdColony are the level of maturity and the ability to think and act calmly whenever necessary. As mobile was relatively new when I started, most networks were leading startups with things pretty dynamic, unconventional, and goals tending to change every now and then. All these have prepared me to think ahead of the times. A lot of ‘what-ifs’ are being constructed so that I can be always ready if any of such changes are to happen. I strive to meet the company’s objectives as I move along with the ever-changing dynamics.
What made AdColony the right fit for you?
I am very impressed with the unprecedented video technologies that AdColony has. With such capabilities and offerings, I am very sure that this will provide many opportunities for our SEA and APAC clients seeking to tap into performance video inventories. And this is something that really excites me as I am proud to showcase and demo real cool stuff that I think will amaze my clients.
How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
I believe humility is the key. I am perfectly fine in rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty. I love to mingle with my Ops and AM teams as I am able to learn from them what our platform can support, keeping abreast of all the happenings in and outside of the industry and giving myself a macro-overview of the current situation. I not only learn how I can work better, but also grow as a person in character.
What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
Oh my! You can find me at a bar, playing rounds of pool, with shots of neat single malt (I’ve recently been crazy for this!) in my hand. I am also into astrology and doing research during my free time. Maybe I can help you do a free reading? I just finished Narcos and I’m waiting for Stranger Things to happen! Ah! I’m also looking forward to traveling around the world to beautiful places and on the top of my mind is Aurora Borealis and gazing at the beautiful phenomena through my glass top igloo.
Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
MyFitnessPal! I am religiously monitoring my keto diet diary and looking forward to my end results before X’mas! Keeping fit and being in shape is my 2017 end goal!
What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I just started my 3-month health/body transformation workout and I am so looking forward to getting back into my pre-pregnancy self! For the first time in my life, I never knew that I can carry weights 2-3x heavier than carrying my own kids!!! I think I can do much better.
Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
Da-jie (meaning big sister in Chinese). That’s what my colleagues call me usually.
What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
The APAC sales offsite that happened in Q2 in Singapore was fantastic. I got to know all the people that work across AdColony APAC, and also meet up with the management team who flew all the way from the U.S. It never gets better than meeting up with people from different walks of life and doing nothing but having fun and sharing with one another your life experiences. Yes, of course work was being discussed during the off-site!
