AdColonized: Getting to Know Mitchell Vaz

Posted Mar 1, 2018

Life as a Sales Planning Director is far from dull. Just ask Mitchell Vaz from the AdColony team in APAC! Working both his creative and analytical sides, Mitchell oversees other planners and analysts, creates custom proposals for brand advertiser campaigns, and crunches data to help everyone succeed. He’s always had an interest in tech and has worked in digital his whole life! During his down time, Mitchell enjoys going to the gym, riding his bike, and taking care of his newly adopted cat — Mini! Mitchell, let’s get you AdColonized!

What exactly does a Sales Planning Director do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
As a Sales Planning Director, I oversee a team of highly intelligent and enthusiastic planners and analysts. My team and I handle all tasks that are a part of the pre-sales process. This includes everything from creating custom proposals for brand campaigns across APAC, working on creative innovations that go on to win awards, analyzing and crunching data, and helping the sales team to win maximum possible business.

Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
Before joining AdColony, i worked with Nielsen, handling primary research for India’s major telecom giants. This gave me the understanding of how things work, which helped me transition to Vserv.

Vserv, being in the same space as AdColony, helped me gain firsthand and in-depth knowledge of the mobile advertising space that I could then apply at AdColony.

What made AdColony the right fit for you?
I’ve always had an interest in anything and everything tech and I’ve always been in the digital field throughout my career.

How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
Having a wide network of friends and past colleagues working with agencies, competitors and in related fields, helps me keep abreast of the changes in this fast-paced industry. Being inquisitive and subscribing to and reading news sites and tech blogs online will always be the best source of information from across the globe.

What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
I try to make it to the gym everyday after work and squeeze in a long bike ride at least once a month. But de-stressing with friends and my wife is something that i look forward to over the weekend. All this though tends to take a back seat during Formula 1 race weekends.

Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
Other than the AdColony Showroom app 😀 and Netflix, I use a bunch of apps that all work together. Being a tech enthusiast I use apps like AirWire, AllConnect and Remote Transmission that work together to access my home media server. I also like the brain teaser game Skillz during my down time.

What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I’m adopting a pet cat. She was going to be given away but I thought she would find a better home with me 🙂

Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
Everyone calls me Mitch and it has reached a point where I tend not to respond to people calling me Mitchell out of force of habit.

What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
The offsite at the start of last year where we spent time as a team bonding and laying the path for the year ahead was one of my favorite moments since it was one of the few times everyone was together. In addition to that, hauling in over 2 dozen awards for our work over the course of the year has made 2017 quite memorable.
