AdColonized: Getting to Know Veronica Thambiah

If anyone knows what it takes to gain product exposure and accelerate growth, it’s Veronica Thambiah, Head of Growth in AdColony’s London office! Veronica works on everything from product alignment to data enhancement on the performance side for Europe. She has a Master’s degree in Marketing Communications and experience in digital media. Aside from being the ultimate office prankster, Veronica loves spending time with her nieces and dog, Polo. Veronica, it’s your turn under the AdColonized spotlight!

What exactly does a Head of Growth do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
My job focuses on product communication, alignment and integration, and data enhancement across the performance business in Europe. A typical day for me is alerting the teams about product launches from Apollo, beta tests, creating fluid comms to the team on updates, and answering their questions that they might have across the network, product or business intelligence (BI) tools.

I join all the department meetings to understand where they need product clarification and also inform them about any new data tools that our BI team has put out, so that they can learn and apply them to their account.

I work closely with BI in understanding their tools and continuously work on my Tableau portal, which can allow the global teams to access video tutorials of tools and learn how to apply them to their own campaigns.

Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
I graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors of Science. I always actually wanted to be a dentist! I took a year off before applying to dental school and introduced myself to digital media. I worked at Dow Jones for a graduate internship and then from there, small digital media startups.

After 4 years of experience in digital media, I decided to come to London to get my Masters in Marketing Communications from Birkbeck, University of London. A month after handing in my dissertation, I got a job at AdColony under Andrew French’s team. I started off in Brand Partnership and then switched to Growth on the performance side.

What made AdColony the right fit for you?
I would have to say the management and team has made AdColony right for me. Having a manager that empowers you and supports your growth at the company is key for any employee. I am constantly learning and feeling challenged. The most important part of a job to me is the learning curve, which is essential to your career growth and skill set.

How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
AdColony keeps changing and that makes working here exciting. There’s never a dull moment. With pushing data in the past two years to launching Apollo, all of these are huge steps for the company. Being a part of these goals allows me to keep learning and challenging myself.

What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
I actually have fallen in love with strongman training since I moved to London, and no I am not pushing trucks around the city. It’s weight training proportionate to your own weight. I have also gotten some other girls at the office to try it out and it’s fun to do it with them on the weekends.

I love hanging out with my family, especially my nieces and my dog, Polo. Polo lives in the U.S. half the year and then comes over to London for the rest of the year.

And of course, who doesn’t love trying new restaurants and enjoying some good drinks! I enjoy just chilling on the weekends and trying out some new spots.

Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
I do love Snapchat and I have gotten my 5 year old niece in love with it too…oops!

Gaming wise…hmmm yeah I’ll get back to you on that 🙂

What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I was born in Toronto, but lived there only for two weeks. Sometimes, people like to call me Canadian. But I grew up in the U.S. until I was 26, and then I moved to London.

Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
V, sometimes V Meister, and I’ve even gotten V Meister General at one point.

What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
I enjoy a good prank. A few people in the team are pretty good at pranks and we’re all still trying to beat the one we pulled on French in 2016. Let’s see if we can deliver in 2017! I welcome any good ideas 😉
