What exactly does a Product Designer do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
As Product Designers, we are designing the way users experience and interface with our digital products. Many of these are our internal tools such as the Ops Dashboard and Composer. We are constantly trying to improve the workflow and capabilities of our products, while keeping the visual design fresh, modern, and easy on the eyes.
My day to day here always looks different depending on where we are in a product cycle. Some days all I am working on is wireframes and concepts, while other days I’m putting together design specs for the development team to implement our designs.
Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
I started off my career doing graphic and web design. About 5 years ago I started paying more attention to how users interact with an interface, rather than just how it looked. That is when I started moving into the UX side of product design.
What made AdColony the right fit for you?
I immediately fell in-love with the culture. People love what they do and I feed off of the high energy here at AdColony.
How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
I follow a handful of design blogs and websites such as Designer News and UXPin to stay up to date with the latest design trends and tricks.
What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, trying new restaurants, weight lifting, playing video games, and hiking with my dog.
Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
I have been getting a lot of use out of an app called Upflix which is the perfect app to for any Netflixer. There is so much on Netflix these days it is hard to know what to watch. Uplix gives reviews about everything on Netflix, showing the average review score from IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and Flixster.
As far as games go, I am loving Super Phantom Cat 2. It is a good ol fashion, challenging platformer.
What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I still haven’t lost all my teeth. I’m still waiting on two baby teeth to fall out at 30 years old.
Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
I would say my favorite experience at AdColony was a company-wide trip we took last year to the office in Seattle. I had never been to the Seattle office or even Washington. It was such a great team bonding experience and I learned a lot about the company and my coworkers.
Each AdColonized feature shines a light on a different member of the AdColony team. From favorite apps and hobbies to dislikes and odd secrets, we cover it all!
