Holiday Shopping in APAC & the UK

The holiday season is in full swing and consumers are searching for the best discounts and deals to check off their shopping list. AdColony conducted a global Holiday Shopping Survey to gain more insight on shopping behaviors during this busy time of year and find out how mobile plays a part in the buying process.

Our previous post looked at the results from North America. Now, we’re diving into the numbers from APAC and the UK! Check out the highlights below.

Holiday Shopping in APAC

  • 64% of holiday shoppers are between 18 and 54 years old
  • An overwhelming majority (78%) of consumers use their smartphones over their desktop/laptops and tablets to make online purchases
  • The majority of consumers shop on their mobile device compared to desktop
  • 60% of users find shopping on mobile to be about the same in terms of security compared to shopping on desktop
  • Consumers prefer shopping in-app (61%) over a browser (22%)
  • Clothing is the most-purchased item on mobile devices, followed by home goods, travel, and groceries
  • Almost 80% stated that they would purchase something on their mobile device directly from an ad if the product was relevant to them
  • An easy payment/transaction process is the most important factor when considering shopping experiences on a mobile device

Holiday Shopping in the UK

  • Holiday shoppers in the UK tend to be older — 50% are between 35 and 74 years old
  • 43% of consumers use their smartphones over their desktop/laptops and tablets to make online purchases
  • The majority of consumers shop on their mobile device compared to desktop
  • 59% of users find shopping on mobile to be about the same in terms of security compared to shopping on desktop
  • Consumers prefer shopping in-app (40%) over a browser (26%)
  • Clothing is the most-purchased item on mobile devices, followed by books, event tickets, home goods, and groceries
  • Almost 68% stated that they would purchase something on their mobile device directly from an ad if the product was relevant to them
  • An easy payment/transaction process is the most important factor when considering shopping experiences on a mobile device

About the Study
The AdColony Holiday Shopping Survey was distributed globally and garnered over 2,000 responses. This article dives into the results specifically from APAC and the UK. The survey asked consumers ranging from 14 years old to over 75 about their shopping behaviors and preferences, and how their mobile device plays a role in the buying process.
