As 2018 draws to a close, it’s the time of year when new devices are being unwrapped, or perhaps just straight up bought for oneself! That means new app installers, app updaters, and new users all firing up their devices. According to some analysis by BusinessOfApps, it’s never hotter for app installs than it is in December! Plus, Rewarded Video’s importance is higher than ever as we enter 2019!
This Season’s Hottest Ad Integration
According to the latest research from DeltaDNA just released Rewarded video is the most commonly used in-app ad type amongst gaming apps. Other popular formats include interstitials and banner ads, which while dropping slightly are still going strong for appropriate use cases.
The survey also revealed that developer sentiment toward monetizing using ads has shifted significantly since DeltaDNA conducted the survey in 2016 when 39% considered in-app ads important to monetization, to 59% this year! That other 41% will come around eventually!

Hope you’re ready for all those new devices and users to install your app! Maja Sinkovec from App Radar looked across the app install landscape to piece together this excellent guide to what makes Holiday installs such a great opportunity.
“During the holidays, people are naturally taking breaks from those arduous work days and never-ending hours of studying,” Sinkovec writers, “Thus, the most popular apps to download during the holidays tend to be Games, Social Media, and Lifestyle apps. Apps categorized in Games and Social were on top of Christmas downloads in the last few years.
Farewell for 2018
We’ll be working hard over the next week to ensure ad campaigns are running smoothly monetization needs are met with all those new users and devices. Many of our teams around the world will also be taking a short leave to spend time with their families.
