AdColonized: Getting to Know Rohan Palav

Posted Oct 3, 2019

Say hello to Rohan Palav, Sales Planner in Mumbai! As a part of the Sales team, Rohan creates proposals and annual media strategies. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar and platform diving. Get to know Rohan in this week’s AdColonized feature!

What exactly does a Sales Strategy Manager do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
As part of the Sales Strategy Team at AdColony APAC,  I do what is required to get the job done. 🙂 This includes handling all requests that are part of the pre-sales process. This includes, but is not limited to creating proposals, annual media strategies, developing and working on creative innovations, planning mobile workshops, roadshows, digital days for key clients and in general, helping the sales team to win & grow our business.

Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
Before joining AdColony, I worked with IPG Mediabrands (Interactive Avenues) where I handled the digital mandate for a large set of clients across different verticals. As part of the client servicing team, I handled all jobs end-to-end & was the single point of contact for projects across SEM, SEO, Social Media, Web & Creative Development. This gave me a wider perspective on all things digital and was key to molding my career in the digital landscape.

What makes AdColony the right fit for you?
You could say I am a big fan of entropy, and to me, AdColony & Digital Marketing is just that! Constantly evolving, breaking down, and springing right back up into something new & exciting! Our transition from Opera Mediaworks to present-day AdColony is a testament to this fact and it suits me well.

AdColony values employee development. How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
I normally try not to form an opinion easily or fall into the typical “stereotypes.” Keeping an open mind is key, and although it may sound very obvious, I think it’s not always the easiest thing to do! To ensure that I continuously develop and contribute, I try to stay abreast of the changes in this fast-paced evolving industry by subscribing to and reading from online sources.

How do you act as a resource for the rest of your team?
#Oneteam resonates with me, and all of my interactions with my team and colleagues are a testament to this philosophy. I strive to support every team member so that my team can always count on me.

Is there someone you turn to personally or professionally?
Personally, my partner & my parents! Professionally, my partner & a few present and past colleagues

What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
I enjoy playing the guitar because it relaxes me and is my stress-buster of sorts. Platform and springboard diving is something I’ve been training & learning to do as well. The adrenaline rush in those few seconds is addictive. I’m also a novice stargazer. I recently purchased my first set of binoculars and a telescope to pursue this hobby.

Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
I am tempted to say Slack & Skype. 🙂 But personally, I would say Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify, Headspace, Duolingo, Ultimate Guitar, Star Tracker, etc. The gaming apps, they keep changing periodically.

Tell us one or two fun facts about you.
1. I can ride a bike and fly a plane but I CANNOT DRIVE A CAR! (Maybe this is one of the things I need to reconsider 🙂
2. I have played and won Volleyball, Cricket & Football tournaments in University and at a corporate level.

What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
Our AdColony team recently went on a road trip outside the city and it was fun, putting it mildly! Although this was not the entire team, we still had a blast exploring the landscape and countryside.

What are you listening to lately (music, podcasts, etc.)?
Nothing specific, I’m not eclectic either, but it just goes with the vibe I’m in. A bit of jazz, rock, pop, country, acapella, etc. More than the genre, it’s the melody and the harmony that I catch onto.

What are you looking forward to most in the next 5 years?
Personally speaking and without dropping any hints, I’d say I’m moving onto a more serious phase of my life & it feels good 🙂 Professionally speaking, I’ve spent more than 3 years with the company & Tom and Mitch here at AdColony – APAC and they are leaving no stone unturned to make 2020 a reality. I’m eager to contribute to and fulfill this vision & mission.
