Social Media Habits Changing During Coronavirus

Posted May 6, 2020

The spread of the Covid-19 pandemic around the world has forced us all to stay indoors and start working from home. As social distancing and the time we spend at our homes continues, our habits and preferences are also changing. While we are adapting to the “new normal” our social media habits are also altering.

Why do we use social media? How did it change in the past 4 months? Take a moment to think about it. What were users expecting from social media before and how did it change with the pandemic? Social media was a way of socializing and communicating with the increased need for correct information; the pandemic has changed the expectations from social media. Now that users are looking for updated and unbiased information on social media, the socialization needs should be covered by other activities.

To better understand and analyze the behavioral changes on social media and LinkedIn usage AdColony surveyed people in Turkey about their preferences on social media during the coronavirus outbreak. The Social Media Habits Changing During Coronavirus Survey was distributed to understand better insights about their daily preferences of social media and usage of LinkedIn. As the study finds out, audiences are very sensitive about trust and reliability during this period. Respondents’ ages ranged from 14 to 65 and were typically aged 18 to 34.
