Meet Estrelita Beaulieu, a Senior Accounts Receivable Specialist working out of our San Mateo office! In addition to her love of Finance, Estrelita also loves to cook and listen to music. In this post, she also shares some of her tips for working from home. Get to know her better in this week’s AdColonized employee spotlight!
What exactly does an Accounts Receivable Specialist do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
As an Accounts Receivable Specialist, I am involved in the cash management area. My focus is to retrieve cash received from the bank and post it to our customer’s invoices. Then I prepare and reconcile the cash report. I’m also responsible for doing credit checks on new customers applying for credit with us by approving their limit and terms. This includes setting up all new accounts in Oracle and updating customer profiles. Other days may include preparing for month-end close, troubleshooting discrepancies as well as planning events, and ordering lunches for the team.
Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony and how they have prepared you for your role here.
Prior to coming to AdColony, I worked for Yahoo! and Cox Digital. I worked in accounts receivable, payables, and the billing department using different accounting software, such as Oracle. Fortunately, my experience was consistent with what AdColony was looking for.
What makes AdColony the right fit for you?
I love what I do. The opportunity this company offers me is aligned with my background and goals. It is a perfect fit.
AdColony values employee development. How do you keep growing and learning in what you do?
One of my personal goals in life is to continue learning and investing in my knowledge. Learning is not always a structured lecture or being in a classroom with a textbook. But I do believe in getting a formal education. One way of learning for me occurs when I reach out to share challenges with experienced colleagues. I also love reading books, online materials, and attending seminars for accounting, credit, and collections.
How do you act as a resource for the rest of your team?
I enjoy helping others. I like sharing my knowledge and teaching others from my team or anyone outside the group, including customers. I believe I can create a good working environment and I can become a better person.
Is there someone you turn to personally or professionally?
My personal go-to is always my mum and sister. My family lives in the Philippines. Due to the distance and time difference, my next go-to people are my dear and close friends. I draw inspiration, development, and motivation from them.
My professional go-to includes my great boss Teresa Simms for her unconditional support and guidance. I also turn to Professor Roselyn Garcia, MSN-Ed, BSN, who helps me improve my interpersonal skills, develop my love for the medical field, and stay healthy. I also go to Reverend Father Joe Galang for spiritual guidance.
Many global AdColony employees are still working from home. Do you have any work-from-home tips for success you can share?
What helps me get through every day during this pandemic is creating a schedule and sticking to it. Here are a few tips I would like to share with everyone:
- Always wake up with a grateful and thankful heart ❤.
- Don’t work in your pajamas. Leave your pajamas in your bedroom.
- Dedicate an area as your workspace.
- Put some make up on and wear your nice shoes!
- Take short walks to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
- Redecorate any part of your place that makes you unhappy.
- Call your family or friends daily.
- Play and review AdColony free games 😊.
What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
Pre-Covid-19, I looked forward to not waking up early, enjoying a long breakfast, and going out with family or friends to hike. Also, I try to find out who is hosting the next dinner or game night.
Post Covid-19, I like watching Bond, Marvel, or any action movies that I’ve missed. I enjoy video chatting with friends after work. My go-to person on the weekend for recipes is my friend Maria who loves to cook and bake. I gotta check out what she’s cooking 😊!!!
Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
The Viber and Messenger apps. It’s free! No more international bills, and I can video chat with my family back home.
Tell us one or two fun facts about you.
I love to travel and go to the beach. I like to dance, play the piano and guitar, and just enjoy the moment.
What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
A few years ago, we had our team building with the finance team from Norway. One of the highlights was the cooking event contest. Of course, my team won 1st place! I truly enjoyed ALL our finance team building activities.
What are you listening to lately (music, podcasts, etc.)?
I’m into music, which is a big part of my life. Since it was the holiday season, I was listening to Christmas music. I also like to listen to alternative, pop, and oldies like Johnny Mathis, Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday. I’m also intrigued by a reggae singer/songwriter named Whispering Lion. I enjoy the EWTN station as well as financial talk from Suze Orman and Ric Edelman.
What are you looking forward to most in the next 5 years?
Other than being the next millionaire on the cover of Fortune 500, I look forward to being healthy and still employed at AdColony. 😊 I also anticipate getting through this pandemic and being able to travel and visit our headquarters in Norway and our office in Turkey.
