Compared to the last decades, the demand for vertical advertising has grown constantly. Apart from watching longer-form content, most video content is not watched horizontally by users. People hold their phones vertically almost all the time and mobile apps such as mobile games have responded to this universal preference with vertical-only ad format content. According to ScientiaMobile’s Mobile Overview Report; 94% of smartphone users hold their phones vertically, including when playing games, taking photographs, or watching videos. Also, less than 30% of users turn their phones sideways to watch ads, and users who turn their phones sideways watch only 14% of the video. 72% of millennials don’t ever turn their phones to watch horizontal videos. This shows that applying the right format is really important in the mobile advertising environment.
