Tomorrow at 4:30pm, we throw open the doors of our (spiffy new) headquarters here in West LA and welcome all the thinkers, makers and entrepreneurs joining us for NewCo.
Billed as “a fresh twist on the traditional conference + media platform,” NewCo invites a city’s most innovative companies to host the equivalent of an open house – complete with workshops, keynotes, networking and of course, some cool swag. Naturally, when the opportunity popped up to be part of LA’s first NewCo experience, we were game.
So what can you expect if you drop by the AdColony offices tomorrow?
In addition to a tour of the new digs, you’ll also get to meet the team, see some examples of the gorgeous, HD mobile video campaigns we’re known for, and in the spirit of all things entrepreneurship, get insights into some of the key moments in the company’s development. But for those of you that can’t attend, here are five noteworthy milestones:
- 2007 – The first iPhone launches
Our founder Jonathan Zweig created a mobile website that showcased casual, Safari-based games.
- 2008 – The App Store launches
Jirbo – the earlier iteration of AdColony focused on building great mobile apps – was invited to be an App Store launch partner.
- 2009 – Our first glimpse of the “problems” with mobile video
In advance of the 2010 World Cup, Jirbo was hired to build a “multimedia” app for a major sports network. We discovered that making video work on mobile was a huge challenge – but also a great opportunity to get it right. We became laser-focused on mobile video.
- 2011 – AdColony gets “official”
Jirbo grows up a bit: Will Kassoy joins as CEO, and the company officially launches AdColony as a mobile video advertising network.
- 2013 – We reach the $100 million revenue run-rate
Buoyed by adoption from leading publishers and fueled by campaigns from major advertisers, AdColony tops a $100 million revenue run-rate – doubling and then quadrupling revenue year-over-year. It’s demonstrable proof that the market for mobile video is here to stay …
Of course, there are additional milestones – including (ahem) us joining the Opera Mediaworks family this summer through our acquisition – but we’ll save some of that intel and inspiration for the NewCo session tomorrow. Nikao Yang, our SVP of Business Development, Monetization and Marketing, will host things from 4:30 – 5:30pm, with food, drinks and even a raffle for an iPad Mini 3 after the session.
It’s open to all registered NewCo attendees, but you do need to sign up here if you haven’t already.
