If you look at Ronnie Jiang’s schedule, you’ll see it’s full of business trips, brainstorming sessions, and meetings with various teams and publishers. These are all part of his weekly schedule as Senior Publisher Support. Ronnie’s goal is to help publishers in China monetize their apps on a global scale, demanding constant collaborative strategizing and planning. He’s been in the mobile industry for almost 10 years, and loves to keep up with market trends and changes. On the weekends, Ronnie loves spending time with his daughter, playing billiards, and bowling! Ronnie, it’s time to get you AdColonized!
What exactly does Senior Publisher Support do at AdColony? What’s an average day like for you?
Helping all Chinese publishers monetize their apps over the world and enhance AdColony’s influence in the Chinese mobile advertising industry — you can briefly say this is my role :). But in fact, whether from national or economic developments, the Chinese market is a very large market in the world.
So for me, as the first and only one BD in China from when I joined in April 2016 till now, you can imagine how large the workload is. Meetings and biz trips are almost my daily routine. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, these are the cities I visit often. But I very much enjoyed the process and am very happy to help publishers onlive.
Tell us a little about your experiences prior to joining AdColony & how they have prepared you for your role here.
I worked in the mobile industry for almost 10 years. My former company is also a very good platform in the world. I deeply understand the Chinese mobile industry and understand how to localize international products and help them succeed in China. I can say I made it for all companies I have worked for.
What made AdColony the right fit for you?
As the top video ad platform in the world, AdColony is the best choice for me. First of all, I fully agree that the video format is the trend for mobile advertising. AdColony is a very good platform which just focuses on video and has advanced technology.
Second, as the the BD person in AdColony China, I am so proud of it, and I also have enough confidence to be competent for this position. Third, my referrer, Aaron, our APAC head of BD, let me feel his sincerity and humility during the interview, which is a very important reason why I joined AdColony. Here, I want to say thank you to him one more time.
How do you keep growing & learning in what you do?
The industry is developing rapidly, especially in China. You are facing very intense competition from both the international and the local markets. So I never worry about how to keep learning, because I have to and I have been doing it.
What are your hobbies or activities that you look forward to doing on the weekends or after work?
The most important thing when I am not working is staying with my young daughter and family. My daughter is just 2 years old and very cute! 🙂 In my other spare time, I often play some sport games such as billiards, bowling, and table tennis. I also like driving cars and playing console games such as Street Fighter 5 on PlayStation 4.
Which app is keeping you engaged lately? Why?
Some casual games such as Candy Crush, Flappy Bird, Stick Hero and so on. I played not only for fun but also to challenge my limits. I will not tell you that I am a perfectionist. 🙂
What’s one thing not many people know about you that you’re willing to share?
I’ve been playing billiards since I was 7 years old. I can play 9 ball but I’m in love with Snooker, a style of play from UK. I joined the Chinese professional tournament in 2005 and 2006, the best ranking was top 64 in China. If somebody else likes this game, we can talk more and play together.
Do you have a nickname at work? If so, is there a story behind it?
I have no nickname at work, hope I’ll have one in the near future. 🙂
What is your favorite moment you’ve had with the AdColony team so far?
The APAC offsite meeting in Singapore in 2017. I met a lot of colleagues from the US and APAC. Meetings, team building, sailing, cooking, dining — all unforgettable moments. (You can feel it from attached pics)
