Today, Opera MediaWorks released the latest edition of their quarterly State of Mobile Advertising report. While Android surpassing iOS mobile revenue was the top headline, the report also offered an interesting insight into how publishers are monetizing today versus a year ago: mobile video.
In the last year, video advertising revenue share for publishers has quintupled, with publishers now earning nearly 60% of their revenue through video. Although the share of video impressions has also notably increased, it still only accounts for 12.8% of total impressions. With only 1/8 of impressions accounting for a majority of revenue, it is clear from this data that video is a monetization gold mine for publishers who are leveraging it well.
