In this edition of Mobile Monday, we are covering some of the latest news in wearable tech, from a new Google Glass monocle to medical necklaces for children and a new entrant into the mobile payments arena.
Google Monocle
It appears that Google Glass is reviving as a monocle. Recently, Cnet uncovered a new Google patent for Glass that appears to be a monocle with the device resting just above one eye and tucking over the corresponding ear. The full patent information is available on the US Patent office website.
Medical Necklaces
In an effort to ensure all children have “access to informed and timely health care,” the Khushi Baby team recently unveiled their medical record necklace at the Wearables for Good design challenge hosted by UNICEF. The design was a winner among 250 submissions in the competition that aimed to explore the life-saving potential of wearable devices.
Swatch Wearable Payments
Swatch is yet another entrant into the mobile payments market thanks to a new partnership with Visa announced today. The partnership will facilitate mobile payments through its smartwatches at any retailer currently accepting touchless payments. What is most interesting about this development is Swatch’s declaration that using the payment system will not affect the watch’s battery life, touting that their devices will have a battery life akin to normal watches.
